Written by RT&S Staff

A Union Pacific freight train has derailed in Dupo, Ill., and the flammable liquids it was carrying have caught on fire.

The fire created a thick, black smoke that forced the evacuation of schools and residences. Union Pacific says the train derailed at 12:45 p.m. at its yard in Dupo, which is about 8 miles south of St. Louis. A tank car carrying methyl isobutyl ketone, which is typically used as a solvent, caught on fire.

Video shows more than 10 cars fell off the tracks. More on this story as it develops.
