L.A. Metro officials are expected to vote on three alternatives for the Crenshaw/LAX line later this month.

Iteris Inc. and Gannett Fleming Inc. will work together to provide traffic operations analysis and traffic engineering design services for a new light rail transit system in southern California.

The two-year, $2.05 million contract is for the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail Project, which will have more than 60 signalized intersections. The entire project costs $1.3 billion.

The light rail line is expected to carry 30,000 daily riders by 2040, and will be a key route when Los Angeles hosts the 2028 Olympic games. Groundbreaking is set for 2022, and the project also includes the construction of 14 at-grade stations, mostly in the median of Van Nuys Blvd.

Iteris plans on incorporating advanced design solutions, intersection traffic control technologies and signal system communications to improve safety and efficiency.
