ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Department of Transportation is seeking applicants for its Minnesota Highway Freight Program funding.

According to MnDOT, it has opened a new round of funding for “freight mobility, safety, access and intermodal projects through the Minnesota Highway Freight Program.” For state fiscal year 2029 and 2030, the program makes $25.5 million each available for applications. The funding is available for projects that benefit freight movement.

The MnDOT states eligible projects include those involving freight safety, mobility, or first/last mile projects, at-grade crossing improvements, truck parking and commercial vehicle safety improvement projects, intermodal projects, and freight transportation plans/studies. This particular round of funding is said to “specifically encourage” those projects that support intermodal connections between two or more modes of transportation.

A webinar will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 1 p.m. where attendees will learn more information and can ask questions about the funding. Applications can be downloaded on the website and will need to be submitted to [email protected]. These applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. CT on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.
