WHITEFISH, Mont. – Whitefish is among cities given money by the U.S. Department of Transportation to study grade crossings.

The DOT announced earlier this week it will invest $570 million to improve the safety of grade crossings across the United States. Part of an effort to reduce congestion at these intersections, the city of Whitefish will study grade crossings to prevent train and car collisions. Estimated to cost around $400,000, officials will study three grade-crossings and one viaduct along three miles of BNSF track in its’ Kootenai River subdivision.
