Global News reports that two Canadian National workers who were repairing a grade crossing near Edmonton, Alberta were struck by a pickup truck on Friday evening. Both suffered serious injuries and are in the hospital.

The accident occurred on a rail-highway crossing on Highway 60 between Highways 16 and 16A.

The crossing being repaired had been damaged during the derailment of a single rail car, but there were no hazardous materials involved in the derailment.

The driver of the pickup truck did not leave the scene, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police reported that the collision and derailment were not related.
