BNSF Conductor Dies After Being Hit by a Train

COLUMBUS, Mont. –– Yesterday, a BNSF conductor was hit and killed by a passing train.

CBS News reported that Nick Jacobs, the assistant chief of the Columbus fire & rescue department, said that the conductor died while he was between two trains, one parked and one moving, yet they were on different tracks. Nevertheless, Jacobs said “. . .the moving one struck him somehow.”

CBS affiliate KTVQ-TV reported that BNSF representatives were on the scene, along with deputy sheriffs from Stillwater County and Columbus Police. Assistant Chief Jacobs also said officials from the Federal Railroad Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were there.

The name of the deceased conductor has not yet been released. The accident occurred around 9:40 a.m. on Sunday, October 19.
