LOS ANGELES - Balfour Beatty was selected as a prequalified general contractor for Metrolink's Southern California Optimized Rail Expansion program, or SCORE.

The SCORE program, according to Balfour Beatty, is one of Southern California’s largest rail infrastructure investments. SCORE projects range from $10 million to $100 million in value, and the scope includes “critical infrastructure improvements designed to enhance capacity, reliability and environmental sustainability across the regional rail network.” It is designed to “upgrade Metrolink’s system for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.” As part of the project, crews will work to construct grade crossings and track extending across Metrolink’s network and make improvements to stations and signals.

Balfour Beatty US Civils senior vice president of Rail Operations Keith McCoy said, “This pre qualification reflects our team’s deep rail expertise throughout the West and builds upon our long-standing partnership with Metrolink. . . Being selected as a qualified SCORE program contractor aligns perfectly with our strategic growth strategy within our rail business and Balfour Beatty is excited to contribute to this transformational infrastructure program that will benefit millions of Southern California commuters and visitors.”

According to the release, the selection for the SCORE pre qualification pool follows the company’s recent prequalification for Los Angeles World Airports’ (LAWA) Multiple Award Task oRder Contract (MATOC).
