The U.S. Department of Commerce announced that its Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded a $1.5 million grant to Cole County, Mo. for transportation infrastructure that will include a rail spur and other infrastructure needed to build a multi-modal transload facility within the Algoa Industrial Park in Jefferson City.

The EDA grant will be matched with $1.7 million in local funds and is expected to generate $8 million in private investment.

Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, who made the announcement this week, said, “President Biden is committed to supporting communities across the country as they improve their regional economies. This EDA investment will provide transportation support that will help lower transportation costs for Missouri producers and consumers.”

The Algoa Industrial Park is served by Union Pacific.
