Waxhaw, N.C. is the site of a rail improvement project that is a joint venture with North Carolina and CSX.

First on the docket is the construction of 2,500 ft. of additional track to accommodate an increasing number of freight trains and the build of a 13,000-ft. passing siding. This trackwork will enable more fluid passage of trains through the area, and will improve road congestion.

In addition to new track, a new road bridge will be built along Helms Road to eliminate a grade crossing which, in addition to improving safety, will further ease road congestion.
