HONOLULU – The first segment of Skyline, HART’s future rail system, will be given to the city on Friday, June 9th.

With initial operations beginning June 30th between Kualaka’I Station and Halawa Station, the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation plans to continue the line to Kaka’ako. Halawa Station’s segment should open in 2025, while the final segment to Kaka’ako is scheduled to open in either 2030 or 2031.

CEO of HART Lori Kahikina said that now they are “doing a utility relocation in Dillingham and downtown”, while HART’s COO and deputy executive director, Rick Keene, “hopes to award a contract for the construction of the downtown guideway and stations within the next year or so”.

On Thursday, CEO Kahikina opened Pearlridge station to showcase its’ recent maintenance, repaired cracks in the columns. The only thing she is waiting on is a letter from the engineer that states “everything is done, the stations are safe for people to get on. That gets handed over to HDOT and DTS and FTA and then I sign one last letter certification that this thing is complete and ready to open”.

Trains will run every 10 minutes during the week from 5AM to 7PM and 8AM to 7PM on the weekends. To celebrate, passengers may also ride free on the Fourth of July with the use of their HOLO card.

Last month, Mayor Rick Blangiardi gave a press conference about HART’s rail line grand opening happening on June 30th. Below is a recorded video of the event.
