Repair work has begun on the Clarksville railroad bridge in Tennessee.

A northbound barge struck the bridge’s west riverbank pier on the north side of the structure on Jan. 3. The collision left some damage to the pier and to a railroad truss that serves as part of the bridge span. The damage to the pier caused a shift in the bridge span that crews also will fix.

Currently work involves some riverbank stabilization on the north bank of the Cumberland River next to the bridge. A permitting process also is playing out, and after it is complete more will be known about the other stages of work.
