NEWARK - NJ Transit releases a Request for Qualifications, RFQ, for a new Northern Maintenance of Way (MoW) facility.

The new MoW facility will be located in Clifton, N.J. As part of this next step in procurement, design-build teams are invited to prequalify for this major investment. The MoW facility replaces an older, existing location in Wood-Ridge and will create a “more resilient and modernized based of operations to support NJ TRANSIT’s growing maintenance and repair needs.” It improves the transit agency’s ability to maintain, service, and repair vehicles.

As part of the project, crews will demolish an existing building and substructures, construct three new buildings located across two NJ-TRANSIT-owned sites, perform site grading, and coordinate site utilities and integrate maintenance equipment.

The process will assess design-build teams based on “technical qualifications, relevant experience, and project approach.” After, NJ TRANSIT will shortlist qualified firms and issue a formal Request for Proposal, or RFP.

NJ TRANSIT President & CEO Kris Kolluri said, “This facility will provide more efficient maintenance and more dependable service, by ensuring our track repair equipment remains in a state of good repair. . . With this RFQ, we’re advancing a project that directly supports the long-term reliability and safety of our rail network.”
