GDC Develops List of Teams to Submit RFP for Manhattan Tunnel Work

NEW YORK CITY – The Gateway Development Commission has developed a shortlist of teams who will receive the opportunity to respond to an RFP for work on the Manhattan Tunnel.

The Gateway Development Commission has developed a list of qualified teams who will receive an invite to respond to a Request for Proposals (RFP) “for a design-build contractor to perform final design, construction and other related work for the Manhattan Tunnel on Manhattan’s West Side,” according to a report from NJBiz.com. Those on the shortlist submitted a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) last month as a response to a previous Request for Qualifications (RFQ).

The teams are: 1) FKC-Tutor Perini-Hyundai, a JV comprised of Frontier-Kemper Constructors Inc., Tutor Perini Corp, and Hyundai America Inc.; 2) Gateway Tunnel Partners, comprised of Halmar International LLC and FCC Construction Inc.; 3) Skanska/Traylor/Walsh JV, comprised of Skanska USA Civil Northeast Inc., Traylor Bros. Inc. and Walsh Construction II LLC.

According to the report, the next phase of the Hudson Tunnel Project includes “two parallel tunnels extending from just west of Manhattan Bulkhead, below 12^th Avenue and to 12^th Avenue Shaft, and two parallel tunnels from the 12^th Avenue Shaft to the Hudson Yards Concrete Casing Below 30^th Street.”

This new tunnel will continue through the Manhattan Bulkhead, below the river, “and then on for about 45 feet below the surface of Hudson River Park and 12^th Avenue; beneath the block between West 29^th Street and West 30^th Streets on the west side of 12^th Avenue; and beneath West 30^th Street.” Later this year, construction on the Manhattan Tunnel will begin and last until 2029.
