Union Pacific continues to get hammered by floods

UP has recently experienced washouts in southwestern states – one in Arizona, one in New Mexico, and two in Texas.

Flooding and washouts continue unabated on the Union Pacific.
After the end of 2021, Union Pacific should prepare a book on how to deal with wildfires and floods that affect the railroad. This year has been one of the worst for UP in terms of wildfires and floods that have affected many parts of the line.
This past Saturday, August 14, UP announced to customers that torrential rains have been occurring in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, and washouts affecting operations have been the result. The announcement said “Torrential rains in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas have resulted in several washout locations on the network. Our engineering teams are actively working to restore service to areas which are accessible, in some locations we are still waiting for the water to recede. Customers with traffic moving through the areas can expect delays from 24-72 hours.”
RT&S will continue to monitor the weather challenges faced by the western railroads.
