VTA's BART Silicon Valley Phase ii Extension Project has its' first CTMP from Tunnel and Trackwork Coordinator Kiewit, Shea, and Traylor and the BSVII Project Team.

Tunnel and Trackwork Coordinator Kiewit, Shea, and Traylor, alongside the BSVII Project Team and nearby businesses, have put in writing the first CTMP for VTA’s BART Silicon Valley Phase II Extension Project. The CTMP for Valley Transportation Authority’s Bay Area Rapid Transit outlines the early construction activities for VTA’s Newhall Yard.

The plan will “coordinate automobile, transit, bicycle, and pedestrian movements, truck hauling, general and emergency access, and reduce transportation impacts to the extent feasible during construction at and around the work site”. At VTA’s Newhall Yard property, the plan details where it will launch the tunnel boring machine as well as a Santa Clara station.

As stated in the CTMP, the early construction activities will prepare for the launch of the tunnel boring machine at the West Tunnel Portal. While the tunnel will be excavated and reinforced with concrete walls to make room for the tunnel boring machine launch, there will also be construction of other site entrances, production of grout to seal said tunnel lining segments, and the installation of an excavated materials bin and a noise curtain on the west side of the site to reduce construction noise.

Last March, it encouraged the community to give their input on the proposed plan at both public and virtual meetings. On May 23rdSan Jose city officials brought forth the CTMP for city council approval. Santa Clara city officials will present this CTMP for early construction activities on June 6th.

The CTMP is the first to be developed for this extension project, and early construction activities are anticipated to start in late Summer of this year.
