WASHINGTON, D.C. – WMATA announced summer construction will begin on the Red Line starting June 1st.

During construction, five stations will be closed. These stations are Glenmont, Wheaton, Forest Glen, Silver Spring, and Takoma. Takoma Station will reopen on June 30th. While these stations are closed, Metro says it will provide shuttle buses as an alternative form of transportation. More information on shuttle bus service can be found here.

The construction will continue through August 31st. Once Takoma Station reopens on June 30th, Metro says “limited-stop shuttles will continue to operate to/from Fort Totten for the duration of construction.” This summer closure allows the Maryland Transit Administration Purple Line project “to build a new mezzanine at Silver Spring which will improve the connectivity between Paul S. Sarbanes Transit Center and the future Purple Line Station with Metro.” During this time, crews will also complete maintenance and other repairs on the Red Line.
