SAN FRANCISCO – BART crews will replace interlockings at Rockridge, MacArthur, and 19th Street stations starting the weekend of June 22-23.

While crews replace the segments that allow trains to move from one track to another, BART will offer buses to riders as an alternative mode of transportation. A full list of bus service can be found here. This project is part of BART’s larger initiative to improve its network system-wide.

During that time, crews will also replace some decades-old equipment that includes “traction power cables, install new train control equipment, install new digital displays signs at underground stations up to Berkeley and 12th Street/Oakland City Center, manage vegetation that could impact service, and do deep station cleaning.”

Due to the limited space, crews are not able to use a crane or any other heavy equipment. BART reports crews will have to transport materials on rail and subsequently “assemble larger components by hand.”
