MTA To Perform Upgrades at Queensboro Plaza

NEW YORK CITY – From March 9th to March 18th, MTA crews will perform accessibility and track upgrades to its subway lines, including Queensboro Plaza.

The MTA announced service changes for March due to accessibility and track upgrades to subway lines in Queens, Manhattan, and Brooklyn. The project consists of building two elevators with one connecting the street and mezzanine level and the other connecting the mezzanine to both platforms. This includes expanding the mezzanine by 2,300 square feet to help with customer flow, adding new lighting, updating the pedestrian bridge, bringing the new boarding areas up to ADA-compliance, and upgrading the existing street and station stairs (up to ADA-standards as well). 

The budget is reportedly $74 million, and the work is expected to be completed by the third quarter pf 2024. 

Upgrades at Queensboro Plaza will take place between March 9^th and March 18^th. Said upgrades include:

• Rehabilitation of stairs
• Installing new elevator equipment, cab, and glass
• Installing new roofing around the new elevator on the upper platform level
• Installing main steel framing for new concrete landing around the new elevator on both the upper and lower platform levels

According to the MTA, the upper platform level, lower platform level, and the mezzanine level will see the installation of OutFront media screens, a fire alarm system, a CCTV system, and a PA/CIS system.
