Atiyeh joins HNTB national rail systems team

Atiyeh is based at the firm’s Santa Ana, Calif., office. He currently supports the Crenshaw/LAX Transit Project for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, HNTB said.

Atiyeh brings more than 17 years of experience in construction and engineering projects and has focused on transit and rail systems, HNTB said.

His skill set includes strategic management, planning, estimating, sourcing and project implementation. Atiyeh also brings significant leadership experience, having spent much of his career overseeing multidisciplinary teams.

“Walead has a proven ability to oversee and deliver a variety of complex projects, drawing upon his extensive leadership capabilities,” said Ian Choudri, HNTB’s national rail and transit business development director and senior vice president. “His skills will help our clients advance their programs and achieve their fundamental vision to improve mobility by ensuring easy access, convenience and safety for riders.”

Before joining HNTB, Atiyeh gained experience on on several high-profile rail projects, including the I-255 Light Rail Project for the Regional Transportation District in Denver, Colo., where he served as systems manager through design and construction.

Atiyeh also previously served on the Denver Union Station Redevelopment Project for RTD and the Colorado Department of Transportation, RTD’s Denver Transportation Expansion Project and Sound Transit Link Light Rail.

Additionally, Atiyeh has extensive experience with several transit and rail disciplines, including transit systems integration, train communication construction, and project engineering and controls, HNTB added.

Atiyeh is an alumnus of Louisiana State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. He also earned a Master of Business Administration from the University of Denver Daniels College of Business.
