Expanded Intermodal Design Seminar now available at AREMA Conference

The American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association revised and expanded the Intermodal Design Seminar to be given in association with the Annual AREMA Conference in Chicago, Ill., in September 2012. This seminar has been redesigned by railroad personnel and industry consultants into two complementary sections: planning and engineering.

The Intermodal Design Planning Seminar will include the following modules: Introduction to Intermodal Facilities – Global Perspectives; Site Selection; Simulation – New Facilities; Simulation – Existing Facilities; Site Specifications and Overview of Engineering. This seminar will conclude with a half-day site tour of a local Chicago intermodal facility.

The Intermodal Design Engineering Seminar will begin with the site tour co-touring with the Intermodal Design Planning students. This Intermodal Design Engineering Seminar will include the following modules: Overview of Planning; Facility Types and Equipment; Site Arrangement and Features; Technology Advancements; Environmental and Permitting; Pavement Design and Engineering Lessons Learned.

This will be the first time these two seminars will be presented. The last time the Intermodal Design Engineering Seminar was given was 2009.
