Gannett Fleming names Lee vice president, hires new senior project manager

Gannett Fleming, Inc., has named Joel Lee vice president of the company and hired John Hugunin as senior project manager.

Lee manages the business operations of the Raleigh, N.C., office, where he is based, as well as identifies target markets and business pursuits; supports employee development; manages transportation projects; and mentors staff. He also coordinates with other Gannett Fleming offices in the Southeast Region for project pursuit efforts and has partnered with the North Carolina Department of Transportation on several projects, including its current statewide bridge replacement program.

With more than 26 years of experience and is a registered professional engineer in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Maryland and is a member of the American Society of Highway Engineers.

Hugunin, will be based out of the firm’s San Francisco, Calif., office.

In his new position, Hugunin will provide leadership and management for federal oversight of Sacramento Regional Transit District’s South Sacramento Corridor Phase 2 extension. He also will lead initiatives to help local agencies with public works and transit projects in northern California, specifically focused on transit and public works projects in the North Bay area.

With nearly three decades of project management and civil engineering experience, Hugunin is regarded for his ability to find solutions to complex technical issues in the development and construction of transit and public works projects. He is experienced in providing program and project management, planning, engineering and professional extension-of-staff services for public agencies and private clients. His area of emphasis is transit and transportation, with a solid background in planning, design, construction and safety review of light, heavy, commuter and high-speed rail projects. He has acted as the city engineer for local agencies and is experienced in municipal and land development engineering and in public works grant-funding procurement.

He is a registered civil engineer and a licensed professional engineer in the state of California.
