The Hoffman Team has been selected as the contractor for the Willmar Rail Connector & Industrial Access Project, also known as the Willmar Wye.

Bid opening for the road portion of the project occurred on Sept. 26, 2018, officials said.

The Hoffman Team was chosen through the Design-Build best value process to design and construct the roads and bridges that are part of the project scope.

Major participants of the team include Hoffman Construction Company, Lunda Construction Company, and Bolton & Menk, Inc.

The Willmar Wye is a public-private partnership between BNSF, Minnesota Department of Transportation, Kandiyohi County and the City of Willmar, Minn., to build a new rail line bypass on the city’s west side.

Following the opening of the bids, officials said the award process typically takes six to eight weeks. The project partners also continue working toward finalizing the master agreement regarding the project.

Pending completion of those items, the contract would be awarded in mid-to-late November 2018. Construction is set to kickoff in the spring of 2019.

The project is intended to provide a direct connection between the Marshall and Morris Subdivisions of the BNSF rail network, reducing the number of trains passing through downtown Willmar.

The new rail line is located adjacent to the Willmar Industrial Park and will provide opportunities for direct rail access, officials said.

More information on the project is available here.
