Ondas Networks, a wireless data networks supplier for industrial markets, has announced that transportation industry veteran Wayne Tatro has joined the company as an advisor.

Tatro will focus on strategy and business development for the newly-added transportation business unit, dedicated to Mission Critical IoT (MC-IoT) applications in rail and transit.

Ondas notes Tatro brings more than 35 years of experience in the transportation industry, and has held many leadership positions at Class 1 railroads, including having served as CEO of a software and technology company, and most recently acting as an industry consultant.

Throughout his career, Tatro has led the development, marketing and implementation of business plans that have leveraged new and emerging technologies to support and enable logistics operations.

Tatro has worked with notable companies in the transportation industry including GE Transportation, Boeing and several Class 1 railroads and transit agencies, officials said.

“We are very eager to have Wayne join our growing team of wireless technology and service experts, and we believe his in-depth understanding of and experience in transportation will help position us as a key provider of mission critical wireless solutions that meet rapidly growing industry demands,” said Stewart Kantor, CEO of Ondas. “With initiatives such as Positive Train Control (PTC) being implemented to assure safe and secure transportation operations, his experience will be extremely valuable in developing and deploying customized solutions that provide the required level of reliability.”

Tatro said he looks forward to working with the qualified professionals in the industrial internet space, helping to ensure that MC-IoT operations are connected to secure, reliable and ubiquitous networks that are designed to give transportation operators complete control.

“The rail industry in particular has been actively seeking a standards-based solution to meet its coverage and capacity needs,” Tatro said. “Since the IEEE 802.16s standard was designed specifically for wireless industrial data communications and evolved from Ondas’ proprietary technology, we are in a unique position to partner with the industry and meet these demands.”
