NORWALK, Conn. - The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) sent an alert that from August 1st to 5th, the railroad crossing on Route 123 will be closed to allow for a replacement. There is also upcoming track work on the Metro-North Danbury Branch Line.
Metro-North Danbury Branch Line
Beginning August 1st and lasting through August 17th, alternate bus service will replace train service to allow for work to take place on the Danbury Branch Line. Crews will work during this time to bring the railroad to a state-of-good-repair. Improvements will be made along the Line, including railroad crossings at New Canaan Avenue in Norwalk, Kent Road in Wilton, and South Street in Bethel.
CTDOT Bureau Chief of Public Transportation Benjamin Limmer said, “We understand this work can be disruptive, and we appreciate the patience and understanding of customers during these important infrastructure improvement projects. . . The work is being scheduled before Labor Day and school starts to minimize impact. We encourage members of public to plan ahead, review the temporary bus schedule, and follow all posted detour routes.”

CTDOT states the work includes replacing the current crossing with “all-new materials” that will ensure sustainability long-term. During the closure, detour signs will be posted, but businesses and residences will remain accessible. While the work is performed by Metro-North Railroad, the project is funded through CTDOT.
CTDOT’s Limmer said, “This is an important project that ensures the rail crossing is safe for our passenger rail services and the public . . . We appreciate the community’s patience during construction this summer and ask them to follow the posted detours or seek alternate routes to ensure safe travel.”
