Amtrak continues tie replacement on NEC

Written by Jenifer Nunez, assistant editor

Beginning June 2 and continuing through October 2013, Amtrak will continue the long-term railroad tie replacement project on the Northeast Corridor (NEC). The affected ties are showing premature signs of wear, resulting in speed restrictions for New Jersey Transit and Amtrak trains.

Amtrak plans to replace ties on tracks starting with Track 4, the local outbound (to Trenton) track, between New Brunswick and Metuchen stations.

When the work on Track 4 is complete, Amtrak will move to Track 1, the inbound local track, to replace ties in the same area between New Brunswick and Metuchen. The tie replacement project will continue into the fall.
