FRESNO, Calif. - California High-Speed Rail Authority has completed the Tulare Street Grade Separation project in Fresno's Historic Chinatown.

According to the release, the Tulare Street Underpass and Grade Separation project is complete and open in Fresno. The completed structure is near the first high-speed rail station in the country, and it connects Fresno’s Historic Chinatown to downtown.
Tutor-Perini/Zachry/Parsons constructed the grade separation that relocates traffic more than 20 feet below Union Pacific and future high-speed rail tracks. It is a two-lane roadway that is more than 1,000 feet long and 60 feet wide, according to CHSRA.

Central Valley Regional Director Garth Fernandez said, “Today marks a long-awaited opening of the Tulare Street Grade separation, a project that will improve safety, mobility and connect the communities of Chinatown with downtown Fresno. The project is a result of years of planning, overcoming several unexpected challenges, healthy interagency partnerships and a steadfast commitment to delivering infrastructure that improves lives.”
As for the high-speed rail project, work is still underway with 171 miles under design and construction. Close to 70 miles of guideway are finished.
