After a year’s absence, freight trains are back on the track in the Los Angeles County region.
The freight tracks had to be relocated so workers could build a 9.1-mile line connecting Glendora to Pomona for the LA Metro L Line. The only way the light-rail track could be constructed in the narrow right-of-way was to pull the freight track.
On Feb. 3, a BNSF train was back in action on recently constructed heavy-rail tracks, and will run through Irwindale, Azusa, Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne, and Pomona. BNSF plans on running one train a day on the line, and on Feb. 3 the freight consisted of food for Q&B Foods Inc., which makes Japanese mayo, sauces, and marinades.
New crossing gates also have been installed.
