LOS ANGELES – The American Council of Engineering Companies recognized the Class I for its work on its Needles Third Mainline.

On a social media post via X, formerly TwitterBNSF announced that the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) recognized BNSF’s Needles Third Mainline, Segments 1 and 2, project for the ACEC Engineering Honor Award for California. According to the post, the award “celebrates engineering excellence by honoring projects demonstrating creative problem-solving and engineering’s ability to improve our world.”

Last October, RT&S reported on the triple track addition that teams had been working on since the Spring. The 1.5% uphill track grade in the Needles Subdivision in California experienced an “operational bottleneck,” so BNSF says it began the Needles Third Mainline Track Expansion Project. The project sought to add a third track to the subdivision along 30 miles of Southern Transcon in order to increase traffic.
