CSX track work to impact Amtrak service
Written by David C. Lester, Editor-in-ChiefCSX track work in North Carolina will impact Amtrak schedules between July 22 and September 19. The Carolinian, for example, will be canceled Monday through Thursday, but operate on its normal schedule on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays during those weeks. The Carolinian will also continue to make regular daily runs between Raleigh and Charlotte.
This track work will also impact the timetables of two trains that pass through North Carolina between the Northeast and Florida and Georgia – the Silver Star and the Palmetto.
The northbound Silver Star will depart Miami, Fla. four hours later than normal on Sunday through Wednesday during the track work period. The Silver Star makes stops in Cary, Raleigh, and Rocky Mount during its run through North Carolina. During the track work, the train will also stop in Wilson, N.C. The train will depart Miami on its normal schedule Thursday through Saturday.
The Palmetto provides daily service between New York and Savannah. The southbound Palmetto will depart Richmond, Virginia an hour later than its normal time Monday through Thursday during the track work. This will impact scheduled arrivals and departures in the North Carolina towns of Rocky Mount, Wilson, and Selma. The southbound Palmetto will operate on its normal schedule Friday through Sunday.
