BELLEVUE, Ohio – The Class I invests $472,000 to go toward repairing a drainage issue at the U.S. 20 underpass.

Norfolk Southern announced it has invested in infrastructure improvements in Bellevue, Ohio. Norfolk Southern’s Director of Public Engagement, Will Miller,  presented a check for $472,000 to the Kevin Strecker, the Mayor of Bellevue. The funds will go toward drainage at the U.S. 20 underpass, “where Norfolk Southern’s rail line spans a bridge.” The underpass experiences flooding during heavy rainfall and has led to subsequent closures.

The city plans to start construction soon and hopes to have the project completed by the end of the year. The report from the Class I states that the “solution by the City of Bellevue and Norfolk Southern signifies Norfolk Southern’s ongoing commitment to supporting the communities it serves and fostering positive relationships across its network.”

Director Miller said, “We’re partnering with the City of Bellevue to improve infrastructure, making the community, our employee work environment, and operations safer. . . These funds will help fund important repairs that will alleviate existing stormwater collection issues below our rail line. This investment will help ensure that we’re operating safely and efficiently alongside motorists as we move goods in and out of one of the largest rail yards in our network.”

In response, Mayor Strecker expressed gratitude and said the funds “will make a huge impact within our community. Thank you again to Norfolk Southern for being a very important and outstanding corporate citizen to the city of Bellevue.”
