Freightwaves is reporting that Norfolk Southern is implementing new policies as part of precision scheduled railroading. The changes address demurrage and accessorial charges.

For cars that are held by customers for seven or more days, new storage rates and a new tiered demurrage rate schedule will take effect on April 1, 2020. The railroad also announced that changes to tariffs on accessorial charges will take place on January 1, 2020. One is the rule around “overcharge, over collection, or duplicate payment claim provisions.” The time limit for filing such claims will be reduced from three years to one year.

Norfolk Southern is not the only Class 1 railroad to implement such changes.
