More Norfolk Southern mechanical forces have been laid off.

The Altoona Mirror reports that NS’s engine house in Cresson, Pa. will close at the end of July. This will result in the loss of seven jobs.

Jeff DeGraff, NS’s media relations manager said “This decision is part of our long-term business plans to evolve our operations to best serve the needs of our customers. We remain committed to the region and serving the needs of our customers.”

This layoff follows one on July 9 of this year at the Juniata Locomotive Shop where 86 members of the mechanical team lost their jobs, and 14 unfilled positions were eliminated.

Cresson and Juniata are about five miles apart, so these job losses are regional.
