Norfolk Southern operations impacted by Tropical Storm Barry

Norfolk Southern issued a service alert this morning reporting that shipments to and through New Orleans, LA are being impacted by the Flood Protection Authority’s closure of flood gates due to Tropical Storm Barry. The railroad is working with interline partners to detour over alternate gateways where possible.
Precautionary actions are being taken to protect infrastructure, and rail equipment is being repositioned away from the low lying areas. Norfolk Southern is working with customers located in the forecasted region to identify switching needs. The railroad will provide ongoing updates as this storm system progresses.
