Doc Claussen, vice chair of Gulf & Ohio Railways, Inc., is the new chair of the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA).

The ASLRRA’s Board elected Claussen to serve as its new chairman at the association’s 2019 CONNECTIONS Convention, held at the Orlando World Center Marriott in Orlando, Fla.

Stefan Loeb of Watco Companies, LLC., has also been tapped to serve as the association’s vice chair, according to a statement.

During the past three years, Claussen has served as the vice chairman of the ASLRRA in addition to serving as chairman of the Short Line Safety Institute.

He also serves on the board of the Historic Tennessee Theatre Foundation, the University of Tennessee College of Nursing Advisory Board and the board of the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley.

Claussen has 11 years of experience with Gulf & Ohio Railways, following a career as a diagnostic and interventional radiologist, ASLRRA states.

The association also explained that Loeb has previously served on the Board of Directors representing the Central Region and is a member of the BNSF Short Line Caucus and the Rail Industry Working Group.

The news comes just days after ASLRRA awarded the 2019 Thomas L. Schlosser Distinguished Service Award to Peter A. Gilbertson, president and CEO of Anacostia Rail Holdings Company.
