SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) approved almost $1 million in upgrades for three crossings along BNSF's track in Carroll and Ogle counties.

According to the ICC, the agreement necessitates the installation of automatic flashing light signals and gates at three crossings located at Oakville, Brookville/Ogle, and W. Oregon Trail Roads. The Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF) will cover 95% of the costs, no more than $993,328. BNSF will be responsible for the remaining 5% and any future operating and maintenance costs.

“Illinois’ Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF) makes it possible to install modernized safety infrastructure at rail crossings in all parts of the state. These projects in Carroll and Ogle counties are a perfect of example of how our agency is putting GCPF dollars to work,” said ICC Commissioner
Michael T. Carrigan.
