SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) approved a stipulated agreement for automatic warning devices to be installed in Galena.
The devices will be installed at two highway-rail crossings, according to the ICC. The first will be at Bouthiller Street, and the second will be at S. Main Street over the Chicago & Central & Pacific Railroad Company (CC&P) track. According to the release, the cost for the design and construction is $1,064,223, with 95% of the cost covered by the Grade Crossing Protection Fund. This is to not exceed $1,011,012. The remaining 5% of the cost as well as future maintenance costs are left to CC&P.
ICC Commissioner Michael T. Carrigan said, “Reducing collisions around train tracks is a top priority for the ICC, and the Grade Crossing Protection Fund will go a long way toward protecting Illinoisans from potential track tragedies.”
