Metro sets February weekend, night track maintenance

Written by admin

In February, in addition to the Presidents Day holiday weekend closure of the Rosslyn and Arlington Cemetery Metrorail stations on the Orange and Blue Line, Washington, D.C., Metro will replace fasteners and weld rail that will help ensure reliable Metrorail service. Customers should expect travel delays during the weekends of Feb. 5-7, Feb. 12-15, Feb. 19-21 and Feb. 26-28.

On Feb. 5-7
,

Metrorail customers traveling between the Medical Center and Grosvenor-Strathmore
Metrorail stations should add at least 20 minutes to their travel time because
Metro will replace rail fasteners that stabilize tracks, and make tunnel
repairs. Trains will share one track between these locations the entire weekend.
This portion of work on the Red Line between the Medical Center and
Grosvenor-Strathmore Metrorail stations is part of a larger multi-year Red Line
rehabilitation project that will run through 2013.

Metrorail customers
traveling between the New Carrollton and Cheverly Metrorail stations Feb. 5-7 should
add at least 30 minutes to their travel time because Metro will be welding
rail. Trains will share one track between these locations.

Feb. 12-15, the Rosslyn and
Arlington Cemetery Metrorail stations will be closed from 10 p.m. Feb. 12,
through closing (midnight) on Feb. 15 while Metro undertakes a major track
rehabilitation project at the Rosslyn Metrorail station throughout the
Presidents Day holiday weekend.

Feb. 19- 21 and Feb. 26-28,
Orange Line Metrorail customers traveling between the New Carrollton and
Cheverly Metrorail stations should add at least 30 minutes to their travel time
because Metro will be welding rail. Trains will share one track between these
locations.

Most nights in February,
Metro will replace fasteners, make repairs to concrete slabs underneath the
rails and conduct preliminary switch repairs at the Rosslyn Metrorail station.
Customers should add at least 20 to 30 minutes of additional travel time to
their schedules from Sunday to Thursday nights between 8 and 9:30 p.m. to
closing (midnight) on the Red, Blue and Orange lines.
