PITTSBURGH, Pa. – L.B. Foster Company’s Board of Directors and Koppers CEO Leroy M. Ball have been recognized with “Best of the Boardroom” awards from the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) Three Rivers Chapter, which covers the Pittsburgh, Pa.; Buffalo, N.Y.; and Cleveland and Cincinnati, Ohio, areas.

The annual awards honor company boards and directors in the public, private, and non-profit sectors for their achievements, according to the NACD Three Rivers Chapter, which presented its 2024 awards on May 9.

Pittsburgh-based L.B. Foster, which offers products and services for the rail and infrastructure markets, earned “Public Company Board of the Year.”

“I joined the Board at a time of necessary change in 2020,” L.B. Foster Board Chair Raymond T. Betler commented. “We moved forward with a small, collaborative team consisting of Board of Directors members and current President and CEO John Kasel, who was Chief Operating Officer (COO) at the time, to develop a top-down strategy that led to effective changes across the company. After three years of hard work, we are transforming the company with a focus on details and commitment to the investor community. We are appreciative to be recognized with this award. We are proud to be headquartered in Pittsburgh now for over 120 years and fortunate to work amongst so many excellent world-class corporations.”

Leroy M. Ball of Pittsburgh-based Koppers, who serves on the Board of the global provider of treated wood products, wood treatment chemicals and carbon compounds, has earned the Leadership in Public Company Governance Award. He joined Koppers in 2010 as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, and took on the role of COO in 2014 before being elected to President and CEO in January 2015. Prior to Koppers, Ball spent 10 years with Calgon Carbon Corporation and nine years with Carmeuse Lime Co./Dravo Corporation. He is a member of the Board of Directors for ATI Inc., a global specialty materials company, and Highmark Inc., a leading health insurance organization.
