Amtrak names new CIO

Amtrak has named Jason Molfetas as chief information officer to lead the company's information technology team and develop and implement systems to support customer service initiatives, enhance business operations and improve financial performance.

Molfetas brings more than 28 years of experience and leadership in the IT industry to Amtrak. He most recently served as senior vice president and chief information officer for Recall, an Australian-based global company involved in secure information management and logistics, digital media and data protection. In addition, he simultaneously held the position of general manager for its Brazilian operations.

“Jason has considerable expertise in the IT field and possesses the leadership skills needed to build the partnerships and the new technology systems to advance Amtrak into our bright future,” said Amtrak President and CEO Joseph Boardman.

“I am pleased to be joining Amtrak during an exciting period when it is poised to grow beyond the success it has experienced in the last several years,” said Molfetas.

Amtrak is applying technology solutions to several facets of it business, including the recent installation of Wi-Fi on routes that cover 75 percent of its passengers to date, the launch of eTicketing on all trains across its national network this summer, development of a next generation reservation system and deploying point-of-sale technology to improve onboard food and beverage sales.
