LA Metro Releases Final EIS/EIR for Southeast Gateway Line

LOS ANGELES – The LA Metro, along with the FTA, released a final EIS and EIR for the Southeast Gateway Line, formerly known as the West Santa Ana Branch Transit Corridor.

In conjunction with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), LA Metro released a Final Environmental Impact Statement/Environmental Impact Report (EIS/EIR) for the Southeast Gateway Line. The line, known before as the West Santa Ana Branch Transit Corridor Project, spans 14.5 miles from the community of Florence-Firestone in Los Angeles to the City of Artesia. 

The report is more than 1,300 pages and “evaluates the project from multiple perspectives, covering its historical background, potential environmental effects, and its importance for communities throughout Los Angeles County.” In addition, LA Metro says the report contains the Metro-board selected route and alternative routes as well as an “extensive analysis on transportation connections and strategies to reduce traffic congestion and advance fairness and environmental responsibility.” The EIS/EIR can be downloaded and read in its entirety here.

Now, the FTA will issue a Record of Decision (ROD) this summer, which is an official certification that allows LA Metro to move forward with plans. This would follow a mandatory 30-day waiting period after the Final EIS is published. At the same time, the Metro Board of Directors will consider certifying the Final EIR.
