The Federal Railroad Administration has repeatedly warned NJ Transit that the agency seems it will not meet the December 31, 2020 PTC implementation deadline. NJ Transit leadership, however, has maintained that they will meet the deadline.

With a little more than 60 days to go, Terry Fedders, the project manager from Parsons, Inc., recently told the NJ Transit board “We are on target for 100% completion before December 31.”

Fedders added that about two-thirds of NJ Transit’s mileage is now undergoing live testing, and when they begin testing the North Jersey Coast Line on Nov. 19, over three-fourths of mileage will be undergoing live testing. In December, the Atlantic City Line will be the last line to see revenue service testing.

After hearing Fedders’ report, Cederic Fulton, an agency board member, as well as acting vice chairman of the board, said “I’m pleased to hear the positive report. We’re keeping our eye on it.”
