The project will enhance the track and signals on the Blue Line in Minneapolis, specifically near the Mall of America. Together, RailWorks Track Systems and L.K. Comstock National Transit will be responsible for upgrading the track and signals systems for the customer, bringing new safety and reliability to the network. During the project, RailWorks will be replacing nearly 3,200 feet of embedded track and more than 2,000 feet of ballasted track; removing and replacing crossovers; tamping nearly 4,800 track feet; and installing insulated joints.

For its portion of the project, L.K. Comstock National Transit will provide the final design and construction of systems work including demolition and installation of the OCS system; replacement, upgrade, and installation of the signal system; and all associated testing and certification work to support the project. The project includes three stations and two interlocking locations.

Work is set to be completed in 2022.

“This project brings together two best-in-class contractors performing their specialized services for a valued customer,” said Kevin Riddett, RailWorks President and CEO. “RailWorks worked on Phase I of this project in Minneapolis in 2017-2018, and I’m looking forward to our successful completion of this phase.”
