Urban Engineers has hired Peter Fedun, PE, as the firm’s new deputy practice leader for rail and transit.

The firm is a multidisciplinary planning, design, environmental and construction support services consulting business headquartered in Philadelphia, Pa. Fedun has joined Urban Engineers with more than three decades of engineering experience, focusing on rail transit design for light transit, heavy rail and high-speed rail, Urban Engineers said.

“We are excited to have Peter come on board in a leadership role for our rail and transit practice,” said Matthew Marquardt, PE, an Urban Engineers senior vice president and COO for Vertical Services. “He is a proven talent in the industry, and his expertise will enhance the level of service we are able to provide for our clients.”

Fedun has worked on major transit projects throughout North America and in Asia, contributing to the planning, final design, construction, and maintenance phase of related projects, Urban Engineers said. He has also prepared contract documents for conventional design-bid-build, design-build and P3 procurements.

His career began as a structural engineer, during which time Urban Engineers said Fedun developed conceptual, preliminary and final structural designs for viaducts, bridges, tunnels and other transit-related facilities.

As a project manager, Fedun has demonstrated his ability to build teams, facilitate complex project work and satisfy client expectations.

Fedun is an alumnus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a registered professional engineer in six states. He is also a member of the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association and serves on Committee 12 – Rail Transit as secretary.
