MOBILE. Ala. –– The Port Authority says this new investment by Ray-Mont Logistics highlights Mobile's growing role in global supply chains.
Construction has begun on the Ray-Mont Logistics’ new export-focused transloading facility at the Port of Mobile. Officials say the new facility will strengthen Mobile’s role as a global logistics gateway.
This will be the third facility the Canadian bulk logistics company has in the United States, and its first on the Gulf Coast. Port leadership cites Mobile as offering deepwater access, rail connectivity, and expanding container capabilities as features of the port that attract new investment.
The transloading facility is slated to open in the fourth quarter of 2026. Exports of plastic resin packaging, forest products, and other goods are expected to increase. Ray-Mont will also leverage growing container capacity generated by APM Terminals’ operations in Mobile and take advantage of the Alabama Port Authority’s growing intermodal logistics network.
The new facility will sit on property owned by the Alabama Export Railroad (ALE) at the Port of Mobile, and will use access to the Port of Mobile’s 50-foot shipping channel as well as the Authority’s on-dock rail infrastructure and an expanding inland intermodal network.
Alabama Port Authority Director and CEO Doug Otto said “Ray-Mont’s decision to establish operations here speaks to the competitive advantages we can offer manufacturers, shippers and their global customers. With the deepest container port on the Gulf Coast, growing multimodal connectivity and expanding inland reach, the Port of Mobile continues to strengthen its position as America’s Gulf Gateway.” He added that “We are grateful to Ray-Mont and ALE for investing in Mobile, and we are proud to partner with them on this project. This facility will better serve their customers, strengthen supply chain connectivity and create new opportunities for cargo movement through Mobile.”
The Port has recently completed the work to widen and deepen Mobile’s shipping channel to 50 feet. Ray-Mont’s operations projections say that the new facility will add approximately 60,000 TEUs of annual export volume through the port.
Charles Raymond, President & Chief Executive Officer of Ray-Mont said “The Port of Mobile is an increasingly important gateway for global trade, and we see this project as a meaningful opportunity to build long-term value around that momentum. For Ray-Mont, this terminal expansion investment is about establishing a strong logistics platform in Mobile that connects inland resin and forest products production to international markets through an efficient, scalable and strategically positioned export hub.”
Buck Rogers, Vice President, Petroleum and Chemicals at Canadian National said “This project is a strong example of how CN can help customers unlock growth where rail, port access and export demand come together. Mobile gives us a scalable platform to support new volumes in the southern region of our network, while helping customers move their products to global markets with greater efficiency.”
