When old meets new there is almost always an adjustment period. For Sound Transit, that adjustment period is going a little longer than expected.

Connecting new track to existing track to the Eastside was supposed to take 10 weeks and the all-clear date was for March 16. However, the system of power that transfers between wires, tracks and trains did not receive the proper insulation. This could result in signal problems, which in turn could create delays in train service.

Trains will continue to run on a single track, causing the light rail service to run every 15 minutes.

Crews will close downtown stations for one weekend to retest and certify the tracks. Sound Transit has yet to release the dates when work will take place.
