GALESBURG, Ill. - $25 million in federal funding was awarded for infrastructure upgrades in Galesburg.
According to the release from Congressman Eric Sorenson’s office, the funding comes from the USDOT’s Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) Grant Program and will go toward a new rail track in the Galesburg Business Park. Additionally, crews will make “key upgrades” to the park that include supporting a new facility to export local agricultural goods via BNSF rail.
Galesburg City Manager Eric Hanson expressed the city’s thanks for the support of its “rural community” that “can finally realize the long-term goal of developing our business park with the infrastructure necessary to spur development and opportunity for our community.”
“The Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development wishes to thank Congressman Sorensen for his leadership and support for this important transportation funding. The Congressman and his team worked closely with us throughout this multi-year process and helped make this win possible. We also want to thank Senators Durbin and Duckworth and Congressman LaHood for their support for this project. This is a great team win for West-Central Illinois,” said Ken Springer, President of The Knox County Area Partnership for Economic Development.
