A railroad crossing in Wichita, Kan., is damaging wheels and tires at a high clip.

The line, owned by Union Pacific, and the crossing on 55th Street was worked on this past weekend before it was reopened to traffic. Motorists claimed ballast and rail were causing the damage.

One driver, Drake Slates, drove over the crossing on Nov. 21 and was shocked at how rough it was. He uses the route daily, and this time he claimed his car suffered tire and wheel damage. Slates said there should have been a warning sign posted about the excessive gravel and exposed track.

Slates posted a picture on Facebook and one commenter said he drove through the same railroad intersection recently and also suffered tire and wheel damage.

Wichita City Councilman Jared Cerullo claimed the 55th Street crossing has been terrible for years, and added the city is helpless when it comes to the railroad making the necessary repairs.
