A railroad trestle collapsed on April 22, causing a freight train to stop in Washington, N.C.

The accident happened on the span the runs across Runyon Creek between Washington and Washington Park, N.C. Carolina Coastal Railway owns the train, and it took crews hours to remove it from the damaged trestle. The locomotive and three cars were on the trestle when the train stopped, with the remaining cars sitting on the Washington Park side of Runyon Creek.

Crews spent the early evening hours trying to repair the trestle.

RT&S will have more on this developing story if and when it becomes available.
