The pieces are being put in place.

Workers began installing concrete segments of flyover bridges for the Reseau express metropolitan (REM) light-rail system in Montreal’s West Island. It marked a new phase of construction. A launching gantry was being used to move and place the precast pieces of one of the bridges as onlookers watched the process.

The bridges will be erected between the Pierrefonds-Roxboro and Sunnybrook stations. According to CDPQ Infra, which is the prime contractor, 1.6 km of bridges will be pieced together over the next few weeks.

The light-rail system will replace the Deux-Montagnes commuter train, which has been closed so new infrastructure could be put in place. Officials said trains should be running by the end of 2023.
