SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) approved funds to install automatic warning devices in Peoria and Carroll Counties.
Peoria County
ICC approved state funds to go toward the installation of warning devices and highway approach grade improvements at Kramm Road crossing. The estimated project cost of the signal design and construction is $374,187. 95% of the cost is covered by the Grade Crossing Protection Fund (GCPF). Additionally, the cost of the crossing surface renewal is $102,733. The ICC says the GCPF will cover 90% of this cost. Any other costs and future maintenance will be left to BNSF.
ICC Commissioner Michael T. Carrigan said, “The ICC is proud to work with communities and railroads across Illinois to make our highway-rail crossings safer. . . The Grade Crossing Protection Fund helps important projects like the one near Edwards come to fruition.”
Carroll County
In Carroll County near Lanark, the ICC approved state funds to go toward installing automatic warning devices at the Grange Road highway-rail crossing. The estimated project cost for signal design and construction is $345,351 with GCPF funds covering 95% of the cost. The remaining 5% and future maintenance costs of the “signals and circuity and the full cost of temporary STOP signs” will be left to the Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad Company.
